Youtube has announced Student Plans for Youtube Music and Youtube Premium

Youtube is making its streaming services more accessible for students by launching cheaper plans. November 27 2018 onward, student plans are available for YouTube Music Premium for $4.99 and YouTube Premium for $6.99. Students can sign up by January 31 2019 to avail these rates.

While these plans are currently only available to full time students of accredited universities and colleges in the US, Youtube has plans of expanding these further and make these plans available to more countries in future.  But, are these rates better than the ones provided by other popular streaming services? Spotify’s student deals are priced at $4.99 a month as well. They also recently announced that students can avail the service at as low as $0.99 a month for the first three months. Spotify student deals also include a Hulu subscription.  Even Apple Music’s student deals are available at $4.99 a month and they also recently expanded these services to 82 more countries, while Youtube Music and Youtube Premium is available only in 17 market territories as of now. These include countries like US, UK, Canada, Australia and Germany. It’s clear that Youtube Music needs to step it up if they’d like to compete with the big players of streaming like Spotify, and Apple Music.
