Spotify has rolled out a new integration with ChatGPT, enabling both Free and Premium users to discover personalized music and podcast recommendations directly within OpenAI’s conversational platform.
The move expands Spotify’s vast ecosystem, which already spans more than 2,000 connected devices ,from smart TVs and cars to gaming consoles ,ensuring listeners can now engage with Spotify seamlessly through chat.
To get started, users simply need to mention “Spotify” in a ChatGPT conversation. The first time they do, they’ll be prompted to connect their Spotify account. Once linked, users can request songs, artists, albums, playlists, or podcasts , or ask for tailored recommendations based on a mood, activity, or theme.
ChatGPT will display results within the conversation, and tapping on a track will open it directly in the Spotify app for playback. The integration also supports conversational continuity; for instance, users can ask Spotify to create a road trip playlist while planning a weekend getaway through ChatGPT.
For more accurate results, Spotify recommends that users include extra context such as genre, mood, or artist for music, and topic, host, or guest for podcasts.
Free-tier listeners can explore Spotify’s popular curated playlists like Discover Weekly and New Music Friday. Meanwhile, Premium users will have the added advantage of generating fully personalized playlists from detailed prompts.
Spotify emphasized that it continues to refine its personalization technology, combining machine learning with human curation to craft listening experiences suited for every moment.
The feature is entirely opt-in, meaning users must explicitly connect their Spotify account to ChatGPT. They can also disconnect at any time. Spotify confirmed that it will not share user content ,including music, podcasts, or videos ,with OpenAI for training purposes.
The Spotify app for ChatGPT is currently available in English across 145 countries for logged-in Free, Plus, and Pro users on both web and mobile (iOS and Android).
