Shreya Ghoshal Becomes Spotify’s First Indian Equal Global Ambassador, Shines On Times Square Billboard

Shreya Ghoshal, one of India's most cherished playback singers, has reached another milestone by becoming Spotify's first-ever Indian artist to be named the Equal Global Ambassador.

Ghoshal announced this exciting news on Monday via social media, sharing images of her billboard in New York City's Times Square. "Thrilled to share that your SG is the first Indian artist to be the Equal Global Ambassador for @spotify @spotifyindia. Here are some visuals from New York Times Square," she wrote on Instagram, along with photos of the digital billboard.

Spotify's Equal Global Music Program, launched in 2021, aims to promote gender equality in the music industry by highlighting the accomplishments of women creators worldwide. Through this initiative, Spotify seeks to uplift and support female talent across the globe.

Shreya Ghoshal has been a prominent figure in Indian music since 2002 when she made her debut with the Bollywood song Bairi Piya in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas, for which she won a National Award.

Her musical journey began at the age of four, and by six, she was receiving formal training in classical music. Ghoshal's big break came at 16, when, after winning a television singing reality show, she caught the attention of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's mother, leading to her debut in Bollywood.

Over the years, Ghoshal has delivered several iconic hits, including Teri Ore (2008), Sun Raha Hai Na Tu (2013), Ghoomar (2018), and Guli Mata (2023), among others.

She continues to captivate audiences, recently appearing on the popular game show Kaun Banega Crorepati, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. Alongside fellow singer Sonu Nigam, with whom she has collaborated on over 120 songs, Ghoshal performed some of her most famous tracks, such as Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin (2011) and Main Hoon Na (2004), during the September 20 episode.

Shreya Ghoshal will also return as a judge on Indian Idol Season 15. Among her recent projects is the song Zaroorat Se Zyada for the film Vedaa, starring John Abraham and Sharvari Wagh. She also lent her voice to the Hindi version of Angaaron from the highly anticipated film Pushpa 2: The Rule.

Her All Hearts Tour is currently in full swing, with a live performance scheduled in Dubai on Saturday, September 21. Earlier, in a gesture of solidarity, Ghoshal postponed her Kolkata concert, originally planned for September 14, following the tragic rape and murder at RG Kar Medical College. The concert has been rescheduled for October 19, with a stop in Doha on October 17.
