The Indian music scene is a vibrant fusion of soulful melodies, high-energy beats, and innovative sounds that captivate audiences both at home and abroad. The 16th Mirchi Music Awards celebrated this diversity, honoring legendary icons and rising stars shaping the industry's future. Spanning genres and categories—film, indie, classical, technical, and Listener’s Choice—the event highlighted the incredible talent driving Indian music today.
This year, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar won the coveted ‘Album of the Year’ title, with Pritam expressing gratitude: “Every award celebrates the collective effort behind a music album. Thank you to the listeners and the Mirchi Music Awards for this honor!” Meanwhile, the chart-topping Besharam Rang from Pathaan swept accolades, earning ‘Song of the Year,’ ‘Female Vocalist of the Year’ for Shilpa Rao and Caralisa Monteiro, and ‘Music Composer of the Year’ for Vishal-Sheykhar. “Recognition like this inspires us to keep exploring new sounds,” they shared.
In the Listener’s Choice Awards, Animal emerged as the ‘Album of the Year,’ featuring renowned artists like Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal. The ‘Song of the Year’ honor went to Phir Aur Kya Chahiye from Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, celebrated for its emotive lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya, who remarked, “Artists thrive on appreciation, and I’m deeply grateful for this recognition.”
Independent music also shone brightly. Labon Se Baat by Shekhar Ravjiani and team claimed ‘Indie Song of the Year,’ blending Ghazal’s timeless charm with modern sensibilities. Darshan Raval’s Mahiye Jinna Sohna won the Listener’s Choice Indie award, with the artist sharing, “This is a dream come true and a testament to the love poured into every note.” Classical music’s enduring appeal was celebrated with Rut Badle, recognized as ‘Raag Inspired Song of the Year.’
Mirchi Music Awards’ judging panel, including luminaries like Kavita Krishnamurthy, Ramesh Sippy, Raftaar, and Shekhar Ravjiani, ensured fairness and inclusivity while honoring excellence across genres. CEO Yatish Mehrishi summed up the celebration: “The Mirchi Music Awards uphold the rich legacy of Indian music while spotlighting fresh talent and technical brilliance.
