Coldplay Announces Plan To Retire from Studio Albums After 12th Release

Coldplay has revealed their retirement plans as the British band continues their world tour, with fans eagerly awaiting the release of their new album this October.

Frontman Chris Martin shared that the band will retire from making studio albums after their 12th release. In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Martin explained that Coldplay’s 10th album will drop on October 4, 2024, and their final album will come after two more releases.

Coldplay Announces Retirement from Studio Albums:

During the interview, Martin confirmed that Coldplay intends to stop producing albums after their 12th one. “We’re only going to do 12 proper albums, and that’s set in stone. This limit has pushed the quality control to its highest level. It’s incredibly difficult for a song to make it now, which is great because it keeps us striving to improve,” Martin said. He explained that the decision wasn’t arbitrary but rather influenced by some of their biggest musical heroes.

“There’s only seven Harry Potter books. The Beatles have about 12 ½ albums, and Bob Marley has a similar number. These are our idols,” Martin said. However, the decision was also driven by a desire to give his bandmates more personal freedom outside the band.

“Creating a great album as a band requires a lot of effort, and I want to allow the others to have more time for themselves,” Martin added, as reported by NBC News.
