Vashu Bhagnani Slams Tips Music Over Song Use In 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai'

A fresh dispute has emerged in the Hindi film industry after producer Vashu Bhagnani publicly criticised Tips Music over the use of songs from Biwi No.1 in the upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai starring Varun Dhawan.

The controversy centres around the digital video rights of songs from the 1999 blockbuster Biwi No.1. According to Bhagnani, his production banner holds the digital video rights to the film’s tracks, and he alleged that the songs were used in promotional material for Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai without proper authorisation.

The veteran producer expressed disappointment over the development, stating that ownership of the digital video content lies with his company and should not be used without consent. The disagreement has once again highlighted the increasingly complex landscape of music, video and intellectual property rights within the entertainment industry.

Reports suggest the issue surfaced after songs associated with Biwi No.1 appeared in connection with promotional assets linked to the Varun Dhawan starrer. Bhagnani has reportedly maintained that while music rights and audio rights may rest with music labels, the digital video rights remain separately owned.

Neither Tips Music nor the makers of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai have publicly detailed their response to the allegations so far.

The incident adds to the growing number of copyright and licensing disputes emerging across Bollywood, particularly as older film music continues to be repurposed, remixed and reused across new films, digital platforms and promotional campaigns.
