Apple Partners With Universal Music Group To launch 'Sound Therapy'

Apple Music has launched a new immersive experience called Sound Therapy, developed in collaboration with Universal Music Group (UMG) and wellness platform Sollos. This innovative offering blends popular music with sound waves based on audio science, aiming to help listeners sleep better, relax more deeply, and improve focus.

Available within the ‘New’ tab on the Apple Music app, Sound Therapy features specially curated playlists that reimagine songs from UMG artists such as Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry, and Kacey Musgraves. These aren’t standard tracks; they’ve been adapted—extended, instrumental, or rearranged—for a more soothing and therapeutic experience.

The playlists are grounded in sound science. Each one is designed to trigger specific brain responses through the use of auditory beats and colored noise. For example, the focus playlist incorporates gamma waves and white noise, helping to filter out distractions and enhance concentration. The relaxation playlist is infused with theta waves, known for calming the mind, while the sleep playlist includes delta auditory beats and pink noise—frequencies often associated with the comforting sounds of rain or wind—to support deeper sleep.

To access Sound Therapy, listeners need an active Apple Music subscription. The individual plan is priced at ?119 per month, while the family plan, which supports up to six users, costs ?179. Students can subscribe at a discounted rate of ?59 per month.

With Sound Therapy, Apple Music is positioning itself not just as a platform for entertainment but as a tool for wellness, combining the emotional power of music with scientifically-backed audio techniques to improve everyday life.
