Sonu Nigam On Singing Mohammed Rafi’s Song During Surgery: ‘It Happened Organically’

Singer Sonu Nigam has opened up about a viral video showing him singing Mohammed Rafi’s iconic “Suhani Raat Dhal Chuki” while undergoing surgery, describing the unusual moment as something that happened spontaneously.

The video, shared by Nigam on social media, shows the singer performing the classic from the 1949 film Dulari while lying on the operating table. He dedicated the moment to his surgeon and the medical team, describing it as an expression of the “joy of music.”

Explaining how the impromptu performance came about, Nigam said the singing in the operating theatre “just happened organically.” According to the singer, his doctor played his music during the procedure, which naturally led to him singing Rafi’s classic.

Nigam also revealed that the surgery was related to a recurring growth on his left ring finger. He said he had undergone surgery for the issue around four months earlier, but the growth returned, with doctors currently monitoring the condition.

The moment has since resonated with fans, offering another glimpse into Nigam’s deep connection with music and his longstanding admiration for Mohammed Rafi. His association with Rafi’s repertoire goes back decades, including his 2008 tribute project Rafi Resurrected and the later Rafi Kishore Aur Main tour.
