PDL Partners With ACRCloud To Strengthen AI Music Detection And Royalty Accuracy

Phonographic Digital Limited (PDL), a global digital music collection and licensing company representing a broad network of labels and rights holders, has partnered with audio recognition technology provider ACRCloud to integrate advanced Derivative Works Detection and AI Music Detection capabilities into its music licensing and distribution ecosystem.

The collaboration comes as the music industry grapples with the growing challenges posed by AI-generated content, modified audio tracks, and increasingly complex digital distribution environments. Through the integration, PDL aims to enhance music usage identification, improve royalty reporting accuracy, and strengthen compliance across digital platforms.

ACRCloud's Derivative Works Detection technology enables rights holders and distributors to identify copyrighted music even when tracks have been altered through pitch shifting, speed changes, remixes, or mashups. Meanwhile, its AI Music Detection service uses advanced audio analysis to distinguish between human-created recordings and AI-generated music, helping identify synthetic content with greater precision.

The move arrives at a time when major digital streaming platforms such as Apple Music and Deezer are implementing stricter compliance standards and anti-fraud measures. As platforms increasingly require accurate AI-content labelling and crack down on stream manipulation involving altered audio, PDL's adoption of these technologies is expected to help ensure its catalogue aligns with evolving global requirements.

By incorporating ACRCloud's detection tools into its licensing and royalty infrastructure, PDL aims to improve the tracking and attribution of music usage, including derivative and AI-generated content. The company said the integration will support more accurate reporting for rights holders and ensure royalty payments better reflect actual consumption across platforms.

PDL plays a key role in connecting music usage with monetisation, working with digital services, telecom operators and content platforms to track licensed music and facilitate royalty distribution. The addition of ACRCloud's recognition technologies is expected to strengthen its ability to process large-scale usage data while maintaining attribution accuracy and transparency.

Commenting on the partnership, Peng Dong, Co-Founder of ACRCloud, said, "Modern music distribution is facing unprecedented compliance challenges. Our Derivative Works Detection and AI Music Detection services act as an essential pre-distribution filter. By partnering with PDL, we are helping them proactively align with evolving DSP standards, ensuring their catalogue remains trusted, verified, and fully optimised for fair monetisation."

Prashant Dogra, CEO of PDL, added, "As music consumption continues to diversify across formats and platforms, the ability to accurately identify usage becomes fundamental to how value is created and distributed. Working with ACRCloud strengthens this capability, allowing us to improve how we capture, validate, and report usage data. This ultimately ensures that rights holders receive compensation that reflects real consumption with greater accuracy and confidence."

The partnership reflects a broader industry shift toward more sophisticated rights management systems as AI-generated music, derivative works and digital distribution continue to reshape the global music ecosystem.
