Deepika Seth Releases Her Rumi-Inspired Debut Single ‘Kahin Duur’ Featuring Imon

Deepika Seth, a singer-songwriter hailing from Delhi and currently based in Mumbai, is set to make her mark on the indie music scene with her highly anticipated debut single, ‘Kahin Duur’. This Sufi-esque ballad takes listeners on a poignant journey through an unfinished love story that seeks solace and closure in a dreamscape. Inspired by the timeless words of the 13th-century poet Rumi, “Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field; I'll meet you there”  Deepika’s soul-stirring vocals intertwine seamlessly with producer Imon's cinematic instrumentation, resulting in a mesmerizing musical experience.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind the song, Deepika Seth shared, "I was dealing with a very odd kind of heartbreak when this song first came to me - where there were no hard feelings at all - just unfortunate timing. Rumi’s quote gave me a great deal of comfort at that time. And that’s what inspired this song for me. It was my way of taking a wonderful story forward in a dimension beyond the one I was limited to."

"Kahin Duur" encapsulates the concept of a place that exists beyond the realms of right and wrong, a realm where incomplete love stories can pick up where they left off. “I’ve always envisioned this place as a tranquil bench, offering space for vulnerable conversations that real life may not always allow,” says Deepika. Imon, the producer of "Kahin Duur," added, “My fascination with dreamy, ambient sounds of lyric-heavy ballads from artists I’ve grown up revering really manifests in the production choices I’ve made in the song. The percussive hits from Bon Iver, the guitar swells and ambient sounds from Novo Amor and the brass parts of Ibrahim Maalouf. Or maybe I was just lucky and listening to the right songs at the right time!”

The journey of ‘Kahin Duur’ began six years ago when Deepika wrote the first verse of the song. Over the years, she revisited the composition, searching for the right expression. A few months ago, a renewed perspective and a change in the strumming pattern breathed new life into the song. She recorded a rough demo in her room that same night, sending it to a select group of friends, including Imon. Captivated by the emotional depth of the song, Imon returned with a production draft that same week. The two found a resounding consensus on the way ahead from that point on and finished the song a few months later. Despite the huge leap the arrangement has taken since the duo remained attached to that initial idea until the very end; "The guitar section you hear on the final master is actually the same one from the night the song was written. We decided to retain it as an ode to that fateful night!" shares Deepika.

Deepika's personal journey has been fueled by a profound connection to music since an early age. She received formal training in Hindustani Classical vocals and Ghazals for over a decade, providing a solid foundation for her artistry. With influences ranging from Coldplay and Bon Iver to iconic voices in ghazal such as Rekha Bharadwaj, Farida Khanum, and Ali Sethi, Deepika fuses Alternative/Indie folk with Urdu poetry to create a unique and captivating sonic experience.
