Coke Studio’s global hit ‘Pasoori’, performed by Ali Sethi and Shae Gill, has crossed 1 billion views on YouTube, making it the first music video made in Pakistan to achieve the milestone.
Released on February 7, 2022, the song became an instant success and went on to build a massive audience beyond Pakistan. It was the most-streamed Pakistani song on Spotify in 2022 and remains the most-streamed track by both Sethi and Gill on the platform, with nearly 405 million streams.
The song’s popularity has extended across borders, inspiring covers and performances in Pakistan, India and other international markets. ‘Pasoori’ also featured on the soundtrack of Disney’s Ms. Marvel, further introducing the track to global audiences.
Its international reach continued through a Coke Studio Africa remix, which brought together Ali Sethi with Nigerian artists Marwan Moussa and Reekado Banks, blending the song with Afrobeats influences.
The track also received a Bollywood rendition for Satyaprem Ki Katha, with Arijit Singh and Tulsi Kumar lending their vocals to the version. The remake sparked criticism from fans who remained attached to the original.
The billion-view milestone marks another major achievement for ‘Pasoori’, underscoring its lasting popularity and the growing global reach of Pakistani music. Coke Studio celebrated the achievement with Sethi, Gill and producers Xulfi and Abdullah Siddiqui, thanking listeners for helping the song reach the landmark.
