Bollywood singer-composer Sachin Sanghvi, known for his work in Thamma, Stree 2 and Bhediya, has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a woman after allegedly promising her a role in a music album and marriage, police said on Friday.
An official told PTI that Sanghvi, one half of the Sachin–Jigar composer duo, was arrested on Thursday under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Details of the Complaint
According to police, the complainant, a woman in her 20s, alleged that Sanghvi had contacted her via Instagram in February 2024, promising her an opportunity in one of his music projects. The two later exchanged contact numbers and stayed in touch.
The woman further alleged that Sanghvi invited her to his studio, where he proposed marriage and subsequently sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. Following an investigation into the complaint, Sanghvi was taken into custody.
Defence Denies Allegations
Sanghvi’s lawyer, Aditya Mithe, has strongly denied the accusations, calling them “baseless and unsubstantiated.”
“The allegations in the FIR against my client are absolutely false and without merit. His detention was illegal, which is why he was released on bail immediately. We intend to defend against these claims fully and unequivocally,” Mithe said in a statement.
