Hip-hop icon Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson had Mumbai bopping to his beats one last time as a part of his global farewell tour, 'The Final Lap Tour 2023', which marks the GRAMMY®? and EMMY®? Award winning rapper's retirement from music.
Held at DY Patil Stadium on Saturday, the electrifying evening saw 50 Cent perform timeless hits celebrating his landmark album 'Get Rich or Die Tryin' -- a historic moment in Mumbai's musical landscape that brought together the city's own hip-hop community in an unmatched celebration of the genre.
Amping up the anticipation for the superstar's appearance were some powerhouse acts by desi hip-hop superstars such as OG Shez X Suggahunnyy, Shan Vincent de Paul aka SVDP, Yung Raja and Prabhdeep. While fans were seen singing along and moving to every beat, fellow artists from across the Indian hip-hop scene such as Kaam Bhaari, Shah Rule, Dee MC, D'Evil, Spitfire, Flying Machine, Slow Cheeta, Shaikhspeare, Gravity, The Dharavi Dream Project and others kept the adrenaline flowing with the loudest cheers and even some freestyle b-boying. Later, a surprise act by Chicago-based rapper and 50 Cent's longtime collaborator Jeremih aka Jeremy Phillip Felton brought down the house with hit songs like 'Birthday Sex', truly making it a night of West-meets-East talent.
The star-studded concert also saw a legion of Bollywood and Indian film & TV personalities such as Shruti Haasan, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Jackky Bhagnani, Shazahn Padamaee, Rakul Preet Singh, Aadar Jain, Palak Tiwari, Anaita Shroff Adajania and more.
Fans went into a frenzy as 50 Cent appeared on stage and belted out crowd-favourites like 'Candy Shop', 'In Da Club', '21 Questions', 'Disco Inferno', 'Ayo Technology', and many more. He was joined on stage by Jeremih for the duo's hit number 'Down on Me', which, along with a stunning display of pyrotechnics and confetti showers, had revellers gasping.
The night wrapped up with requests for an encore, which the legend happily obliged to, as he addressed Mumbaikars with fond familiarity of his first performance in the city in 16 years. A colourful montage of his timeless tunes, global nostalgia, and the finest desi talent - the India leg of 'The Final Lap Tour 2023' was all highs, carving its space in hip-hop history.
