Bollywood & K-Pop Cross Over Is Growing Rapidly

Bollywood & K-Pop Cross Over Is Growing Rapidly
First and foremost, the world is celebrating K-Pop. Artists like BTS, SHINee and others have delivered great music in the past. However, the biggest success of K-Pop till date is PSY's 'Gangnam Style'. In fact, the song was the first video to be watched over two billion times on digital streaming platform, YouTube. The video of 'Gangnam Style' was silly and that's what made it unique. Bollywood has been a crucial part of K-Pop industry as well. For instance, Korean daily-soaps have been featuring Daler Mehndi's 'Tunak Tunak' in their episodes from ages. Seungri of the band Bigbang posted a video of 'Tunak Tunak' on his Instagram last month while dancing. Likewise, Strong Girl Bong-soon is a 2017 Korean drama. The show featured 'Tunak Tunak' as a ringtone on one character's phone. Six-member K-Pop band, Snuper, recently performed in Delhi. Snuper admitted that they love Bollywood and want to work with Bollywood maestros. Bollywood is a huge industry. Snuper are looking for Bollywood opportunities to boost their global market. Jseph from KRAD has tried to sing 'Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hai' at various events. 4MINUTE has tried to create a Hindi version of their song 'Volume Up' in the past. Members of K-pop bands Super Junior, EXO, SHINee, CN Blue & Infinite came together for Bollywood. Exciting India featured them with Yash Raj Films' production-head - Aashish Singh. They tried to earn a role in Bollywood and had a funny dispute on stage. That was all an act, of course!

Popularity of K-Pop in India & it's global impact.

K-Pop is said to be an almost $5 Billion industry. Furthermore, K-Pop is often stereotyped as a genre for photogenic groups of singers who are good at synchronized dancing. Bands like BTS, SHINee, TVQX and others have had packed concerts in countries like Brazil, Russia, US, Mexico and others. The linguistic barriers are being destroyed by the internet. Bangtan Sonyeondan has won Billboard’s Top Social Artist Award for two consecutive years in 2017-18. The group won it over Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and several other international acts. Likewise, ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ by BlackPink got almost 37 million hits on YouTube in a single day. Indian contestants have participated in several K-Pop reality shows. Luckily, Indians have won a few K-Pop competitions as well. While K-Pop is not the most love genre in India, fans do exist here. Immortals Army from India have won the second prize at Changwon K-pop World Festival in South Korea. Priyanka Mazumdar won the third prize in 2016. The first lady of South Korea attended the Indian-leg of the contest during her visit in India this year. Do you think K-Pop has the calibre of becoming the next big thing?
