Spotify Launches ‘Verified’ Badge To Distinguish Human Artists From AI Content

Spotify has unveiled a new “Verified by Spotify” badge, currently in beta, as part of its efforts to promote transparency and highlight human creativity in an era of rapidly increasing AI-generated music.

The light green checkmark will appear next to artist names across search results and profile pages, helping listeners distinguish between authentic human artists and AI-generated personas or content farms. The move comes as the platform looks to strengthen trust in music discovery and ensure fans can better identify genuine creators.

To qualify for the badge, artists must meet a set of criteria evaluated through a combination of automated systems and human review. This includes demonstrating a clear real-world presence, such as live performances, official merchandise, and active social media profiles. Additionally, artists must show consistent audience engagement over time, rather than short-term spikes in popularity.

Importantly, Spotify has clarified that AI-generated artists or profiles representing AI personas will not be eligible for verification. The company also emphasised that all verified artists must adhere strictly to its platform guidelines and policies.

Alongside the verification badge, Spotify is rolling out a new “About” section on artist profiles. Designed to function like a “nutrition label” for music, the feature will offer deeper insights into an artist’s activity, including release frequency, performance signals, and key milestones based on platform data.

Unlike the verification badge, the “About” section will be available to all artists, providing listeners with greater visibility into the authenticity and consistency of any profile.

The initiative marks a significant step by Spotify to address growing concerns around AI-generated content, while reinforcing the value of human artistry in the evolving music landscape.
