Ed Sheeran Joins Shah Rukh Khan And Arijit Singh For Magical ‘Sapphire’ Music Video

After the success of “Azizam” and “Old Phone,” global pop icon Ed Sheeran returns with “Sapphire”, a radiant new single from his upcoming album Play. A powerful anthem of love and connection, the track blends Sheeran’s signature warmth with intricate South Asian instrumentation and features celebrated Indian artist Arijit Singh on vocals, sitar, and backing arrangements.

"‘Sapphire’ was the first song I finished for the album, and it shaped everything that followed," said Ed in a statement. "That’s why I wrapped up the recording in Goa, surrounded by some of India’s most talented musicians. It was an incredible creative journey."

Shot during Sheeran’s India tour earlier this year, the music video—directed by Liam Pethick—features sweeping visuals from across the country and includes appearances by Arijit Singh and Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan. Opening with a sunrise rooftop performance, the video travels through bustling markets, riversides, local kitchens, and even Bollywood backlots. It also captures a studio jam and motorcycle ride with Arijit in his hometown, and a soulful performance at the A.R. Rahman Music School.

Sheeran revealed that a full Punjabi version of “Sapphire”, featuring more of Arijit Singh, is set to release in the coming weeks. "This album version is my personal favourite," he shared. "And working with Arijit was just a magical experience."

Ed Sheeran’s album Play arrives September 12, 2025. The record draws inspiration from Indian and Persian musical traditions—sounds Sheeran says surprisingly echo the Irish folk roots he grew up with—blending global influences into what he calls a “borderless musical language.”
