AR Rahman Opens Up: Mom Sold Jewellery For His First Recorder Amid Financial Struggle

Renowned Oscar and Grammy Award winner, AR Rahman, needs little introduction. His recent musical enchantment in Imtiaz Ali's film "Amar Singh Chamkila," released on Netflix on April 12, 2024, captivated audiences. The movie, based on the life of the late Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila, garnered immense recognition largely due to its captivating songs composed by Rahman himself, with lyrics penned by Irshad Kamil.

In a heartfelt conversation with the "Amar Singh Chamkila" team, including director Imtiaz Ali, singer Mohit Chauhan, and lyricist Irshad Kamil, AR Rahman reflected on his journey. Despite facing financial struggles at the outset of his career, Rahman's ascent to greatness serves as an inspiration. Recounting his early hardships, Rahman shared how his family's support was pivotal, especially when his mother sold her jewellery to fund his first recorder.
