Shillong: British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran set the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium ablaze on Wednesday night as nearly 30,000 fans gathered to witness his 'Mathematics Tour' in India.
Marking his first-ever performance in Shillong, Sheeran greeted the ecstatic crowd, sporting a T-shirt featuring the city. "Shillong, how are you feeling? Thank you so much for coming here. It's my first time here! I'm so happy to be here," he said, before launching into his hit ‘Castle on the Hill’, sparking a euphoric singalong.
Before performing ‘The A Team’, Sheeran reflected on his journey, sharing, "I wrote this song when I was 18, thinking it would be my one-hit wonder. Fifteen years later, playing it in front of a crowd like this… it's mind-blowing."
Showcasing his signature live-looping technique, Sheeran emphasized that every sound was created in real time, making each concert a unique experience. "Shillong, you are by far the loudest audience," he declared, encouraging fans to keep up the energy.
The concert’s success reinforced Shillong’s reputation as a premier music destination in India. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma praised the event, stating, "Shillong is emerging as India's favourite concert destination, contributing to the nation's growing concert economy, as emphasized by Hon'ble PM @narendramodi."
