Amazon has officially introduced Alexa+, an AI-enhanced version of its voice assistant, bringing advanced contextual understanding, smarter home automation, personalized user experiences, and agentic capabilities. Alexa+ will be available as a standalone service and bundled with Amazon Prime.
Smarter, More Personalized, and AI-Driven:
Panos Panay, SVP of Devices & Services at Amazon, announced the launch in a newsroom post, highlighting that Alexa+ is now more conversational, intelligent, and tailored to users. The AI-powered assistant can complete complex commands, manage smart home devices, book reservations, order groceries, and even remind users about upcoming events.
Alexa+ is model-agnostic, primarily built on Amazon Nova but capable of selecting third-party AI models like Anthropic's LLMs via Amazon Bedrock, ensuring optimal task execution.
Agentic Capabilities & Smart Home Integration:
One of Alexa+’s standout features is its ability to complete tasks autonomously. For instance, if a user needs oven repairs, Alexa+ can search online, find a service provider, authenticate, book the repair, and notify the user—fully automated.
Alexa+ also enhances smart home management, proactively notifying users about deliveries, home visitors, and executing future-scheduled commands.
Advanced Features: Computer Vision & Cross-Platform Sync:
The AI-powered assistant now includes computer vision, allowing users to upload documents and images for content analysis, summaries, and Q&A interactions. Additionally, Alexa+ syncs across platforms, enabling users to seamlessly continue conversations between devices, including a new Android & iOS app and a dedicated website.
Pricing & Availability:
Amazon will roll out Alexa+ in the U.S. via early access in the coming weeks. Initially available on Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21, it will later expand to more devices. The standalone subscription costs $19.99/month (approx. ?1,740), but Amazon Prime members can access it for free.
With enhanced AI, automation, and personalization, Alexa+ is set to redefine voice assistants, bringing a smarter, more proactive digital assistant experience.
