Raymond presents MTV India Music Summit - One True Note in the Right Direction

The music industry in India is largely driven by film music. Movie soundtracks, especially Bollywood music, accounts for about 80% of the industry’s revenue. Raymond presents MTV India Music Summit was created to direct the focus back to the rich musical heritage of the country that was present before film music took over.

The need

The talk about the music industry being separate from the film industry has been around for a while. The co-founder of Musiconcept, Aparna Joshi, hopes for MTV India Music Summit to be that nudge towards creating an alternative music industry. 

We love Bollywood, but that can’t be the only defining lens through which we consume music. It’s sad that in a large country like ours, we don’t have an alternative music industry.   The amazing lyricist, Prasoon Joshi who is also the Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification acts as a mentor to the summit. He has been closely involved in the programming of the showcase and feels that it’s important to widen the musical perspective of the youth of the country. Being an avid listener of music himself, he feels that,

The concept

The idea of MTV India Music Summit is to reduce the distance between the audience and the performer. They don’t only want to create an intimate and engaging setting so that the music can truly involve the listeners, but they also want to have conversations surrounding music and the creation of a piece. The second edition, like the first, will be showcased in the cultural lushness of The Fairmont in Jaipur that allows the audience to experience another element of the rich heritage of India.

Raymond presents MTV India Music Summit 2018

The line up of the second edition of MTV India Music Summit is just as exciting as the first edition. In addition to renowned musicians such as Shankar Mahadevan, Kailash Kher, Hariharan, the line up would also include violinist Dr. L Subramanian, the brilliant Shujaat Khan, Bhimsen Joshi, and Parveen Sultana along with many more great names of the music industry.
