On the same day a Mumbai family court granted her divorce from cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal, choreographer and influencer Dhanashree Verma unveiled a striking new music video, Dekha Ji Dekha Maine. The song delves into themes of domestic violence and infidelity, with Verma portraying a woman betrayed by her husband.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, the track is sung by Jyoti Nooran and composed by Jaani, who also penned the lyrics. The poignant lines cut deep: "Dekha ji dekha maine, apno ka rona dekha. Gairon ke bistar pe, apno ka sona dekha." (I saw my own people crying. I saw my own sharing a bed with others.)
Set against the backdrop of Rajasthan, the video features Verma alongside Paatal Lok actor Ishwak Singh. The narrative unfolds around a royal couple, depicting scenes of marital abuse—including a slap in front of onlookers—and unflinching portrayals of infidelity.
Reflecting on the project, Verma called it one of her most emotionally challenging roles. “This was one of the most intense performances I’ve been a part of… It demanded a level of depth and vulnerability. I hope it resonates with the audience just as deeply.”
The video’s release coincided with the finalization of Verma’s divorce from Chahal, whom she married in December 2020. As part of the settlement, the cricketer has agreed to pay ?4.75 crore in alimony.
The song seamlessly blends Hindi and Bengali musical influences, creating a dynamic dance number that celebrates cultural diversity.
