Iconic Collaboration: Tech Panda And Kenzani Unveil Their Version Of 'Sunflower' For Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse

Hot on the heels of the chart-breaking success of ‘Dilbar’ comes yet another feather in the cap for the New Delhi duo, Tech Panda and Kenzani.

The contemporary producer duo of Rupinder Nanda and Kedar Santwani aka Tech Panda and Kenzani respectively were asked by Sony Music to recreate one of the biggest hits of recent years, ‘Sunflower’ – by American rappers and singers Post Malone and Swae Lee – for the newly released Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

The Hindi reprise features singer Badal, whose dulce voice complements the lingering sitar, santoor and flute that the song opens with. Mirroring the emotion that the original ‘Sunflower’ invoked in fans, the Tech Panda x Kenzani production is a sweet love song, showcasing their trademark emotive electronica sound.

“Obviously there’s always a lot of pressure when you take up a project to revisit such a big song,” say Rupinder and Kedar, who are gearing up to also release a new single, ‘Kulli’.

“We were asked to revisit the track in the signature ‘Tech Panda & Kenzani’ sound which is really an amalgamation of the traditional Indian sound with clean electronica soundscapes. We wanted the track to display a clear blend of Indian instruments and sounds, and maintain the soul of the original yet create a new space for itself,” they add.

Spider-Verse, a multiversal web that connects every spider-themed superhero in multiple timelines, introduces viewers to Mumbattan, a hybrid of Manhattan and Mumbai, where Indian Spider-Man Pavitr Prabhakar lives, and where audiences get to hear the opening strains of the Indianised version of ‘Sunflower’.

Incidentally, the Post Malone and Swae Lee ‘Sunflower’ was a part of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and became one of the biggest hits of 2019.

Over the past two years, Tech Panda and Kenzani have released more than 80 tracks together, amassing fans and accolades and quickly become Indian electronica’s flagbearers.

‘Dilbar’, their collaboration with fellow fusion-focused producers Rusha & Blizza has reached the ears of everyone from Bollywood bigwigs to Norwegian urban dance group Quick Style. There are over 400k reels on Instagram made using the song while has been streamed over 7 million times on Spotify, over 4 million on YouTube and 2 million times on Apple Music. The track is also back at the number 1 spot on the Apple Music India Electronic Charts, after reigning for three months earlier this year, while simultaneously charting across platforms and countries including Canada, UK, Dubai & Pakistan.
