Bigg Boss 19 Makers Face Rs 2 Crore Legal Notice Over Copyrighted Songs

The producers of Bigg Boss 19 have been slapped with a legal notice demanding damages of Rs 2 crore, along with additional license fees, for the alleged unauthorized use of copyrighted music on the Salman Khan-hosted reality show.

According to a report by Mid-Day, Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) has accused Endemol Shine India and Banijay of using two popular Bollywood tracks,“Chikni Chameli” from Agneepath and “Dhat Teri Ki Main” from Gori Tere Pyaar Mein,in the show’s 11th episode without securing the necessary license.

The notice, dated September 19 and addressed to Deepak Dhar, points out that both songs are licensed to Sony Music India, with their public performance rights administered by PPL. The organization has claimed that using these tracks without approval amounts to “willful infringement.”

Along with damages and license fees, PPL has also served a cease-and-desist directive, warning the makers against using any of its sound recordings without prior authorization.

Team SCREEN reached out to Banijay Asia, Endemol, and JioHotstar for comment. While none of the parties issued an official statement, a source close to the production said that Banijay and Endemol do not determine the choice of songs used. Instead, a dedicated promotional team at JioHotstar is reportedly responsible for those selections.
