Academy Award-winning composer, producer and philanthropist A.R. Rahman has been awarded the prestigious Golden Plate Award by the American Academy of Achievement at the 56th International Achievement Summit held in Washington, D.C..
Rahman received the honour from acclaimed filmmaker Peter Jackson during a ceremony at the historic Mellon Auditorium.
The Golden Plate Award is among the American Academy of Achievement’s highest recognitions, celebrating individuals whose achievements have made a significant impact across their respective fields and inspired people around the world.
Expressing his gratitude, Rahman said he was deeply humbled by the recognition and credited the people of India, his collaborators and fans for being an integral part of his journey.
“This recognition is deeply meaningful to me. It’s not just an honour, it’s also a reminder to strive for more and keep growing. I’m humbled and proud to represent India in this way,” he said.
Over the years, the Golden Plate Award has been presented to several distinguished global figures from the worlds of arts, literature, cinema and public life, including Haruki Murakami, Julie Andrews, Maya Angelou, Francis Ford Coppola, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Michael J. Fox, Samuel L. Jackson and Andre Agassi.
The honour marks another major milestone in Rahman’s illustrious career, which has seen him emerge as one of India’s most celebrated global cultural ambassadors.
