Validating this statement is the fact that Indian music is danced upon almost in every corner of this world. Over time, the Indian Music Industry has witnessed significant changes which have been introduced keeping in mind the preferences of people and to keep up with the new trends.

Music also forms a very important part of our daily lives. As per the data by Nielsen, 94% of the online consumers in India listen to music with 71% of them saying that music is an important part of their lives.

Several new labels are coming up in the market which are giving rise to new trends, transforming the concept of music. If we precisely talk about how new music labels are making a place for themselves among the already well-established labels, a closer observation will let you know that they are doing this by launching something which has never been launched before.

The year 2022 has been commendable in terms of music. More and more audience is connecting themselves to online music platforms. It has been observed in India that people listen music close to 22 hours per week. Listeners have also started appreciating independent artists, albums, non-film music etc which has led to expansion and shift towards regional and local artists as well as music. Now a user can take the advantage of digitalisation, can listen to music online or download music from online platforms. Infact, the Indian Music Industry has paved a path for young talents and creator who create their own music or use licensed music and generate own content like in tik-tok, Instagram etc that assists them to connect, attract new followers and engage with fans online. The industry has provided employment opportunities to a large population and the music industry will have a strong impact in the coming future positively.

Digital Age - Boosts new artists and labels

The advent of the digital era worked as a catalyst to boost the emergence of budding artists and labels. Platforms like Instagram, YouTube, TikTok significantly helped the young artists and new music labels to rise to fame. A very common example to understand this is when we scroll Instagram reels, we come across a variety of music. If we like a particular song which we have listened on Instagram reels, we tend to search for that song. The trend of music on social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube is unbiased as we don't always listen music of only big labels getting popular. The music by young artists who have just started their career, also trends which works very well for them and makes them rise to fame. Some of the common examples around us are Yashraj Mukhate, Rahgir, Tesher etc. All of these people have gained fame solely on the basis of their music that being one of the most trending contents on social media.

Collaboration with Movie Soundtracks and OTT

The Indian Music Industry provides ample of opportunities to young talent, artists, regional singers; infact famous singers. It creates a path of development, growth, improvement and success. New artists can take the chance to collaborate and work with big and known labels, collaborate with music director of a film, soundtracks and one of the emerging segments of movies and bollywood is OTT that can be utilized to build young talent into professional performers who are confident, capable and always eager to learn. Like Netflix and other video streaming platforms work with new and well-known artists to create the soundtracks.

Music Industry in 2023

New trends have been expected in 2023. The Indian Music Industry will continue to evolve and rise with new approaches and demands by the listeners, Streaming is going to dominate as streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music have revolutionized to the way we listen to music and will grow in popularity in future. This shift will have a significant effect on the way artists make money and how record labels operate. There will be change in the way audience consume songs. Rise of Indie Artists is anticipated next year, social media is impetus that helps artists, singers to reach masses, share their content and work with the audience. And this trend will grow in 2023. Large number of Artists are now achieving heights and success with the help of streaming platforms and social media and that too without the support, assistance of any major record label. This will give artists more control over their music and will help them to retain a greater share of their earnings.
