Universal Music Group And TikTok Announce New Multi-Year Global Licensing Agreement

Universal Music Group and TikTok have announced a new multi-year strategic licensing agreement aimed at expanding opportunities for artists, songwriters, creators and fans across the platform.

The renewed partnership will allow TikTok users continued access to UMG’s vast recorded music and publishing catalogues, while also strengthening engagement between creators and artists through enhanced promotional and technology-driven features.

The agreement builds on the broader collaboration unveiled by the two companies in 2024 and is expected to unlock new creative and commercial opportunities for UMG artists and songwriters. These include expanded marketing and advertising initiatives, alongside access to ecommerce integrations and artist-focused tools.

A major focus of the partnership remains artificial intelligence safeguards. Both companies said they will continue working together to remove unauthorised AI-generated music from TikTok and improve attribution systems for artists and songwriters, reinforcing their commitment to protecting human creativity and ensuring fair monetisation.

The partnership will also deepen collaboration around fan engagement and artist development, with an emphasis on supporting emerging talent globally and creating new opportunities across music discovery, fandom and digital experiences.

Michael Nash, Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer at Universal Music Group, said the companies have already built a strong framework benefiting artists and songwriters, adding that the new agreement would help drive innovative fan experiences, improve social media monetisation and further support human artistry.

Tracy Gardner, Global Head of Music Business Development at TikTok, said the renewed collaboration would help artists and songwriters expand their audiences, strengthen fan communities and grow their careers globally through the platform’s unique music discovery ecosystem.
