Spotify Appoints Payal Kamat As Director Of Government Affairs In India

Spotify has appointed Payal Kamat as Director, Government Affairs India, marking a new leadership addition to the company’s public policy and stakeholder engagement team in the country.

Kamat announced the development through a LinkedIn post, where she shared that she has moved on from Meta and WhatsApp after “a deeply rewarding few years.”

At Spotify, Kamat will lead the Government Affairs function for India, focusing on policy engagement and strategic partnerships as the streaming platform continues to strengthen its presence in one of its fastest-growing markets.

Reflecting on her transition, Kamat highlighted the importance of collaboration and relationship-building throughout her career, noting that “the best work was never done alone.”

She also described India as being at a “fascinating inflection point culturally, economically, digitally,” adding that Spotify sits at the intersection of music, creators, artists and India’s growing cultural influence globally.

Prior to joining Spotify, Kamat worked with Meta and WhatsApp, where she was involved in government affairs and policy-related initiatives. Her appointment comes at a time when digital platforms and streaming services are increasingly engaging with policymakers around issues including creator economy growth, digital regulation and cultural exports.
