Railways Warns Travellers: Play Loud Music On Trains And You Could Be Fined In Court

Indian Railways has issued a stern warning to passengers about playing music at high volumes during train journeys, saying those who disturb fellow travellers could face fines and legal action in court.

Railway officials have stepped up enforcement to ensure a peaceful travel environment, particularly on long-distance trips where families, elderly passengers and children are present. Under Section 145 of the Indian Railways Act, cases are being registered against people who create a nuisance by playing loud music from mobile phones, speaking loudly on calls or shouting in coaches.

In the past year alone, about 115 passengers were booked and fined in the areas covered by the Chennai Central division for such offences. Authorities have repeatedly urged travellers to use headphones, keep mobile volumes low and avoid loud conversations inside train coaches.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has also encouraged passengers to report disturbances. Complaints can be made to onboard railway staff, directly to the RPF, or through the Rail Madad mobile app. Once a case is registered, a fine will be imposed and must be paid in court, officials said.

Railway authorities said the move aims to make train travel more comfortable for all passengers and to minimise avoidable conflicts arising from noise and disruption
