Justin Bieber Sold His Music Catalog For $200 Million Amid Financial Troubles

Justin Bieber Sold His Music Catalog For $200 Million Amid Financial Troubles

At the height of his fame, Justin Bieber was a global pop sensation with career earnings nearing $1 billion. But behind the glitz and chart-topping hits, financial turmoil was quietly brewing.

A new Hulu documentary, TMZ Investigates: What Happened to Justin Bieber, dives deep into the pop star’s personal and financial struggles—uncovering how Bieber came dangerously close to bankruptcy and why he sold his entire music catalog in a last-minute move.

A $200 Million Lifeline

In 2022, Bieber sold the rights to his entire music catalog for $200 million—a decision that shocked the industry due to his young age. The documentary reveals that the sale was driven by urgent financial pressures, including excessive spending and mismanagement of funds.

Despite raking in nearly a billion dollars over the course of his career, Bieber reportedly found himself in dire straits after the cancellation of his Justice tour, which worsened his financial standing. According to a report by The Blast, audits revealed that he owed millions to his former manager, Scooter Braun.

Mounting Pressure and a Difficult Decision

Insiders quoted in the documentary say that Bieber was on the brink of "financial collapse" by late 2022. Although Braun reportedly advised him to delay the catalog sale until January 2023 to gain a tax advantage, Bieber opted to move forward in December, prioritizing immediate relief over potential savings.

While several artists have recently sold their catalogs, Bieber remains the youngest among them—a decision that appears to have been fueled more by necessity than strategy.

The documentary also delves into other aspects of his life, including his mental health, marriage, and the pressures of fame—all contributing factors to a tumultuous period in his career.

TMZ Investigates: What Happened to Justin Bieber is now streaming on Hulu.
