‘He Manifested This’: AR Rahman Recalls Fan’s 2014 Prediction About ‘Ramayana’

Music composer AR Rahman has shared an interesting anecdote about how a fan predicted his involvement in Ramayana nearly 12 years before the film’s music came to fruition.

Speaking at a promotional event for the upcoming film in Chennai, Rahman recalled receiving an email in 2014 from a fan named Sathish, who described a dream in which the composer presented the epic through musical shows across India and the world.

“There is something I wanted to share,” Rahman told the audience, recalling the incident. He added that Sathish had predicted his association with the project long before it took shape, describing the moment as something the fan had manifested.

The prediction has now become a reality, with Rahman collaborating with acclaimed Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer on the music for Ramayana.

During the event, actor Yash, who portrays Ravana in the film, also spoke about Rahman’s influence on his life. The actor revealed that he learnt Tamil through the composer’s songs and recalled dancing to tracks from Gentleman.

Yash also expressed his appreciation for Rahman’s contribution to Tamil music, adding that listening to the composer’s songs in Hindi-dubbed versions often felt incomplete. He said he was glad to perform in a film featuring Rahman’s music.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios, Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. The film’s music is composed by Rahman and Zimmer, with lyrics by Kumar Vishwas.

The first instalment is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026, following its world premiere at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles on October 27. The second part is planned for Diwali 2027.
