Billboard India Launches, Marking A New Era For India’s Growing Music Industry

Billboard, one of the world's most influential music media brands, has officially launched Billboard India, marking a significant milestone for the country's rapidly expanding music industry. The platform enters the market through a partnership with Other Side Ventures Pvt. Ltd., aiming to create a definitive destination for documenting, celebrating and amplifying Indian music both at home and globally.

The launch comes at a time when India is emerging as one of the most dynamic music markets in the world, fuelled by the rise of streaming, independent artists, regional music and a growing global audience for Indian talent.

Billboard India will bring the global brand's signature offerings, including multimedia editorial content, charts, lists, music awards and industry coverage, to Indian audiences, while reflecting the country's unique musical diversity.

The platform will cover the full spectrum of Indian music, from blockbuster film soundtracks to the rapidly growing independent music scene, across languages including Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and more.

"India is already one of the world's largest music markets by volume. Our growth story isn't from one city or one language. It's from every corner of this country," said Priyanka Khimani, media advisor and the driving force behind Other Side Ventures.

In a symbolic statement of intent, Billboard India has chosen legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja as its debut cover star. The iconic musician, who has composed music for more than 1,500 film soundtracks, is currently celebrating 50 years in music. His selection reflects the platform's commitment to honouring musical excellence across generations and genres.

"There couldn't have been a more superlative name to launch our first cover than Ilaiyaraaja. His legacy, body of work and musical superiority speak for themselves. It was our privilege to be able to capture him as he celebrates an important milestone in his career," Khimani added.

Highlighting the significance of the launch, Mike Van, CEO of Billboard, said the Indian market represents a critical opportunity in the company's global expansion strategy.

"At Billboard, we are committed to celebrating every music ecosystem, including the artists, executives, trends, achievements and stories shaping today's global music landscape. Billboard India marks an exciting step in that mission, as the Indian music industry and its global diaspora continue to command growing attention and influence worldwide," Van said.

He added that India's cultural diversity and the strength of the local editorial team provide a strong foundation for the platform's future growth.

Leading Billboard India's operations is a leadership team headed by Preeti Nayyar, who has been appointed Chief Operating Officer, and Mohini Chaudhuri, who joins as Content Strategy Director. The team also includes Amruta Ramesh as Creative Director and Vidya Sivalenka as Charts Lead.

Headquartered in Mumbai, Billboard India is now live and aims to become a key voice chronicling the evolution of India's music industry at a time when the country is increasingly influencing global music culture.

The launch underscores the growing international recognition of India's music ecosystem and signals a new era for artists, industry executives and music fans seeking deeper coverage of one of the world's fastest-growing music markets.
