Apple Music is set to introduce “Made With AI” labels for music created with artificial intelligence later this year, giving listeners greater visibility into how tracks on the platform were produced. The move comes as AI-generated music continues to expand across streaming services and raises growing questions around transparency and attribution.
Apple has informed music industry partners that content providers will be required to include AI Transparency Tags when AI has been used to create a material portion of content, including tracks generated through AI platforms. The tags will eventually be made visible to Apple Music users through the “Made With AI” designation.
The upcoming labels build on Apple’s Transparency Tags, introduced earlier this year for music content including artwork, tracks, compositions and music videos. Initially designed as an optional disclosure system, the tags are now being positioned as a more formal requirement for labels and distributors.
Under the new approach, record labels and distributors will have greater responsibility for identifying content that has been materially generated using AI. Apple’s move is aimed at providing listeners with greater transparency as AI becomes increasingly embedded in music creation and distribution.
The development comes amid broader industry efforts to distinguish AI-generated music from human-created work. Other streaming and music platforms are also introducing measures to identify or manage AI-generated content as concerns grow around fake artists, copyright, royalties and the impact of AI on music creators.
Apple’s decision marks another significant step toward making AI disclosures more visible to audiences, potentially giving listeners clearer information about the technology behind the music they stream.
