Amazon Music Unlimited Launches In India With Six-Month Free Trial For Prime Members

Amazon Music has officially introduced Amazon Music Unlimited in India, expanding its streaming offerings and intensifying competition in the country's rapidly growing music streaming market. The premium subscription tier enters a space dominated by Spotify and Apple Music, with a focus on high-quality audio, spatial sound experiences, and extended free trial access.

The launch establishes a three-tier music streaming ecosystem for Amazon users in India.

At the top is Amazon Music Unlimited, which offers access to more than 100 million songs and podcasts without advertisements. Subscribers can stream in HD and Ultra HD quality, experience Spatial Audio including Dolby Atmos, and download content for offline listening. The service is priced at Rs 99 per month for Prime members and Rs 119 per month for non-Prime users.

To encourage adoption, Amazon is offering Prime members a six-month free trial of Music Unlimited, while non-Prime users can access the service free for three months.

The second tier, Amazon Music for Prime, remains included as part of an Amazon Prime membership. While it provides access to the platform's catalogue of over 100 million songs and podcasts, the service includes advertisements and does not support offline downloads.

Amazon has also announced plans to introduce Amazon Music Free, an ad-supported offering that will provide access to the same catalogue with a more limited feature set. The upcoming tier is aimed at users looking for a free music streaming experience.

The launch signals a strategic shift for Amazon in India, where music streaming has largely been positioned as a value-added benefit within the Prime ecosystem. With Music Unlimited, the company is now directly targeting premium listeners seeking higher-quality audio experiences and advanced features.

The move also reflects the growing importance of audio quality and immersive listening formats such as Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio, as streaming platforms increasingly look beyond catalogue size to differentiate their offerings.

While pricing remains competitive, the success of Amazon Music Unlimited will ultimately depend on its ability to convince Indian consumers to pay for premium audio experiences in a market where affordability and bundled services continue to drive subscription decisions. The six-month free trial for Prime members, however, could provide Amazon with a significant advantage in attracting new listeners.
