Artists Talk: Shubhangi Joshi Collective on Their Crowdfunding Campaign
Shubhangi Joshi Collective is a four piece independent band based out of Mumbai. They're in the process of recording their debut album, Babelfish, for which they have started a crowdfunding campaign. We got in touch with Shubhangi Joshi to talk about the band, the album, and why they chose crowdfunding.

What is Crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding typically refers to raising small amounts of money through a lot of people, mostly via the internet. These contributions or donations are primarily for a specific purpose. A target amount can be set up and that target has to be met in a set number of days. Websites like Wishberry, Kickstarter, Ketto, etc. help a lot of causes that are in need of funding or a sponsorship. Multiple independent musicians, designers, artists, and creative projects have turned to crowdfunding to raise money for their albums and other projects.
Over the years, the one thing I have been really grateful about is knowing that our listeners appreciate us creating our own original sound, and we would not want to change that for anything. This is why we are directly reaching out to our fans and friends to help us realize this project. -Shubhangi Joshi

About Shubhangi Joshi Collective

Shubhangi Joshi Collective is an independent band from Mumbai, India. In 2017, Shubhangi was invited to Los Angeles to be amongst 12 musicians from all over the world at the ISINA Mentorship program. Her six week long journey at this program allowed her to learn, collaborate, perform and grow as a musician. After the program, Shubhangi and the band have gone on to represent India and do a four city tour in Bhutan. Shubhangi was also invited back to the US to perform at the Women's Redrock Festival this August this year.

Babelfish- Debut Album

The name of the album comes form Shubhangi's love for Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy and is named after a character from the book. They named it Babelfish for two reasons. The first being the language of music being their 'Babelfish' into understanding the world. The second reason is that they would like for the listeners to interpret and understand their music in their own way.
The name of the album is inspired by the name of a small, fictitious alien fish in the book Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, written by Douglas Adams, which, if you slip inside your ear, can translate any language for you!
The album is an amalgamation of stories and experiences that have been gathered over years. Babelfish is a labour of love and hard work of the band and will be released some time next year. You can contribute to the project here. [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJRs5YsVFzI[/embedyt]
