In a short span of a few months, and six singles, 18-year-old Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Raman has managed to showcase a diverse range of styles and ideas. With his slightly unusual lyrical flair, Raman has managed to build a loyal fan base that had been clamouring for him to release his latest single, ‘Falling Again’ for a while.
“This release is special, in that it is purely for the fans,” says Raman, adding, “This was a highly requested song by many. Nobody forgot about it even after a year, and I saw how they were asking for it to be released when the campaign for my earlier single, ‘Jadui Pari’ was ongoing.”
‘Falling Again’ is a part of the three-track EP December that Raman will release on December 8, which also includes two-previously released tracks, ‘December’ and ‘Jadui Pari’.
‘Falling Again' by Raman is an upbeat, infectious production about completely falling into love — without fear of judgement. Written in English and Hindi, the song talks about the sweet silly moments of insecurity and the magic of mystery in a new relationship, but most importantly, it’s a song about surrendering to love, again, after shutting yourself to it for a long time.
“I think that the world is filled with people trying hard to be cooler, better than each other, competing through numbers and metrics, and attempting to outdo one another. In such a world, we just need a little bit of love,” Raman shares the idea behind writing ‘Falling Again’. “I wanted to craft a fun, pop song about completely falling, 'down badly,' into love — without the fear of judgement,” he adds.
Like most things he does, the process of writing ‘Falling Again’ was shared with his 188,000 fans on Instagram. “The lyrics ‘she don’t know a thing about me’ along with its melody, randomly popped into my head while I was taking a shower. I quickly put together the first verse and chorus, posted it on Instagram, and asked everyone if I should finish the song. I remember this clearly; it was about a year ago, and the response from everyone was amazing. That's essentially what inspired me to bring this song to life. It's a very happy, wholesome, and carefree song, and I love how I created it without thinking about if it's ‘cool enough’.
‘Falling Again’ is also accompanied by a candy-toned video – produced by Jugaad Productions – shot on the streets and shores of Mumbai, complete with the seasonal Mumbai rain and a chasing dog.
“The music video was shot in two days, and it was a crazy experience,” he recalls, adding, “It was just us running around the streets of Mumbai, hoping to finish filming the entire script. There was a lot of chaos, running around, praying for rain, and mostly hoping to find a good location for the different scenes. Somehow, I feel like the video needed that bit of chaos, and it worked.”
‘Falling Again’, releasing on Molfa Music, will be available on all streaming platforms on November 24.
