On January 4, the iconic Ravindra Bharthi will come alive with the rhythms and melodies of Season 2 of Triveni – Music & Dance Festival. Presented by Surmandal, a steadfast patron of the arts for over 55 years, Triveni pays homage to three luminaries of Indian classical tradition: Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ustad Allah Rakha Khan, and M.S. Subbulakshmi.
The evening begins with a mesmerizing Kathak recital by Mukti Shri Mukku, whose artistry has graced global stages like London’s Barbican Centre and Istanbul’s World Percussion Festival. She will be accompanied by an ensemble of maestros: Ashay Kulkarni on tabla, Krushna Salunke on pakhawaj, Suranjan Khandolkar on vocals, and Yashwant Thitte on harmonium.
The highlight of the festival will be a rare jugalbandi, a dialogue between Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan’s sitar, steeped in the heritage of the Imdadkhani Gharana, and Vid. Shashank Subramaniam’s flute, embodying Carnatic traditions. Ojas Adhiya on tabla and Satish Patri on mridangam will provide a rhythmic foundation for this sublime exchange.
A seventh-generation torchbearer of the Etawah Gharana, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan has carried the legacy of Indian music across continents, blending tradition with innovation.
Conceptualized by Mohan Hemmadi, Triveni is a heartfelt tribute to the maestros of Indian classical arts. Join this celebration and witness the timeless confluence of music and dance.
