Delhi High Court Questions Centre On Unregulated Ticket Resales For Coldplay, Diljit Dosanjh Shows

The Delhi High Court on Thursday sought responses from the Centre and other relevant authorities regarding the unauthorized sale of tickets for the upcoming Diljit Dosanjh and Coldplay concerts in India.

The court issued notices following a plea that called for the establishment and enforcement of a regulatory framework for ticket sales via authorized platforms. The plea urged the Centre to block unlawful ticket re-sellers operating in the country.

Diljit Dosanjh's "Dil-Luminati Tour" is set for October 26 and 27 at Delhi's JLN Stadium, while British rock band Coldplay will perform in Mumbai from January 19 to 21, 2025.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela directed notices to the Union Ministries of Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology, as well as private entities StubHub Inc, Viagogo Entertainment Inc, and Bigtree Entertainment Pvt Ltd.

The petitioner’s lawyer, Rajshekhar Rao, argued that ticket buyers were reselling them at exorbitant prices. He pointed out that these platforms, including StubHub and Viagogo, have no physical presence in India and are not paying taxes. Despite BookMyShow's exclusive rights to sell Coldplay concert tickets and warnings against unauthorized sales, black-marketing activities have surged.
