Spotify is ending support for its car-centric music device called Car Thing in the next few weeks. The platform introduced the hardware in 2022 which helps you easily connect to the music from the app and even control its volume and playback. Spotify had already stopped the sales of the product last year but those who did buy it were getting the support from the company, which ends now.
Car Thing Comes To End
Some of the people who were still using the device on their cars were being notified about the development. Many of these users shared the news via a post on X this week, where they noticed the Car Thing has stopped working.
In fact, they were even getting a message on the screen, “ Thanks for being on this journey with us, safe travels. For more information, visit carthing.com. Contact customer service by no later than January 14, 2025 to discuss your refund options."
Spotify has mostly served the market with its music service so the point of Car Thing didn’t make sense in 2022, which seems to have been felt by the company as well, forcing them to stop selling the device less than one year after its launch.
To be fair, it is good to see Spotify assuring its customers about refunds for their unit, which is the least the company can do for a product that has been shut down in two years for its availability. In case you don’t want a refund, the device can still be converted using open source platforms to offer different features.
The company is busy with its main product, the music service which is expected to get the premium Hi-Fi plan sometime next year. Spotify has also acted on the modded version of its app in India recently.
