How will 5G revolutionise India's music consumption experience?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off the commercial rollout of 5G services in India at India Mobile Congress 2022. Though it would take some more time before 5G becomes more broadly accessible to India’s masses, October 1 2022, marks an important date in the country’s history which is when telcos start rolling out 5G for users after months of testing.

The music industry will also see a major shift in Audio Space, Live Stream Engagements for artists and bands.

Let’s see what industry experts have to say on this:

Vivek Ahuja, Co- founder of Audio Production House -  Aux Media and Artist Manager

5G is definitely going to revolutionise the Entertainment and specially the audio space.

Real time collaborations between artists will become seamless. Artists across the world will be able to collaborate real time without facing any lag, and transfer heavy hi-res audio files without compromising on quality.

Opportunities for Live Stream Engagements for artists and bands will become 10X with 5G. It'll be exciting for managements to chalk out strategies, mapping out more virtual events for artists, exploring VR and Metaverse concerts and gigs, and giving fans a lot more control over their viewing experience.

Mariya Jamal, Head of Marketing at Dot Media

The launch of 5G shall be a catalyst to consumption of more and more short form content. Music used in the world of short form content has become a short hand of emotion. 70% of Music consumption comes from a place of content consumption. Thus, our music sampling shall improve with all the more visually engaging videos.

Vardhman Mehta, Senior Manager, Represent

5G as we know is definitely gonna unleash economic and creative opportunities.

India has seen a huge growth in paid users consuming or streaming music. At the same time we witness the massive reach short format content has provided to creators. The strong connectivity and low latency rates that 5G will provide will enable a better user experience and at the same time will enable artists and creators to deliver a much better output and in higher quantity. It'll Definitely open up more revenue opportunities for artists as well, It'll definitely push innovation beyond preconceived boundaries with the help of metaverse and at the same time it'll enhance the live gigs experience. All in all we as an agency recognise the potential and power of 5g and the opportunities it brings along as we cant wait to explore it further.

Apoorv Bhatnagar, Co-founder of The Plug Media

5G is definitely a revolution for our country, specially when it comes to the music industry. Consumption of music by the people has been increasing at a great pace - the genres across the globe as well as regional music is being highly accepted in India.

It gets way easier for us to stream 4K/8K videos on various platforms. Youtube ofc is a major platform for new music and it’s videos to be discovered.

People who use Apple Music as their primary streaming platform can now consume music with lossless audio via 5G at a better speed since the file sizes are high. And in future - such features can be easily accessible at a smoother speed, if and when other platforms with it is.

One major difference that I feel with introduction of 5G to the music industry is the live streaming experience of shows/concerts and gigs which will be more accessible at a better quality, audio and video wise.
