Apple Music is closing out the year with a subscriber push, teaming up with Sony to offer PlayStation Plus members up to three months of Apple Music at no cost. While the headline offer promises a free trial, the final price depends on whether a user has previously subscribed to Apple Music, returning subscribers may see a heavily discounted rate instead of a completely free offer.
To unlock the promotion, users must have an active PlayStation Plus membership, an Apple ID (which can be created during the process), and no current Apple Music subscription. The redemption process is straightforward: PlayStation 5 users need to download the Apple Music app from the Media section under All Apps, open the app, follow the on-screen prompts, and sign in with their Apple account to activate the offer.
Some users have reported limitations. According to posts on Reddit, the promotion does not apply to those with an active Apple Music subscription or an ongoing free trial. Others noted that while the offer wasn’t entirely free for them, it was still offered at a significant discount.
At $10.99 per month for the standard individual plan, three free months of Apple Music represent savings of over $30, making the deal particularly attractive. By tying the promotion to PlayStation Plus, Apple is clearly targeting gamers who are already comfortable with subscription-based services and a massive audience at that. Nearly 45% of console gamers own a PlayStation 5, compared to around 23% who own an Xbox.
The PlayStation partnership is part of a broader push by Apple Music to expand its subscriber base. Earlier this month, General Motors announced the direct integration of Apple Music into select vehicle infotainment systems. The service is already available in the 2025 and 2026 Cadillac CT5, as well as the 2026 Corvette, Suburban, and Tahoe, with plans to roll out to the 2027 Chevy Bolt and select Buick and GMC models.
