Music composer and singer Devi Sri Prasad has lent his voice to the Telugu version of ‘Ravana Tandavam’ from Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film Ramayana, expressing his excitement about being part of the project and praising composer A.R. Rahman amid mixed reactions to the song.
The track, featuring actor Yash as Ravana performing the Shiva Tandav, was unveiled around Dussehra. The musical sequence showcases Ravana’s devotion to Lord Shiva and his rise to power in Lanka.
Sharing the Telugu version on X, Devi Sri Prasad expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to sing for the film and described Rahman as ‘Isaipuyal’, a Tamil term that translates to ‘musical cyclone’ or ‘music storm’. He also said he was honoured to be part of the project and hoped audiences would enjoy the track.
Multiple Artists Lend Their Voices Across Languages
The song has been recorded in multiple Indian languages, bringing together singers from different music industries. While Devi Sri Prasad has sung the Telugu version, Vishal Dadlani has performed the Hindi rendition. G.V. Prakash Kumar has lent his voice to the Tamil version, while Ravi Basrur and Yadu Krishnan K have sung the Kannada and Malayalam versions, respectively.
A.R. Rahman’s Composition Draws Mixed Reactions
Despite the scale of the project and Yash’s portrayal of Ravana, the song has received mixed responses online, with some listeners expressing disappointment with Rahman’s composition. While several viewers praised Yash’s screen presence and the Tandav sequence, others questioned the music and its energy.
Rahman is composing the music for Ramayana alongside German composer Hans Zimmer, marking a collaboration between two internationally recognised composers for the Indian epic adaptation.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, alongside Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. The film is planned as a two-part adaptation, with its first instalment scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026.
