Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) has partnered with Shankar Mahadevan Academy to introduce online certificate courses in Indian music, enabling learners to pursue music education alongside their regular academic programmes.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), students who successfully complete the courses will receive a joint certificate from the university and the academy, along with the opportunity to earn up to two academic credits. The initiative aims to make music education more accessible beyond traditional classroom settings.
The courses will allow learners to explore different genres of Indian music through an online learning format, bringing structured music education closer to students and enthusiasts.
As part of the collaboration, singer and composer Shankar Mahadevan, co-founder of the academy, will join the advisory board of Bharati Vidyapeeth’s School of Performing Arts. He is expected to contribute his expertise and experience to support the school’s academic and artistic development.
The MoU was signed in the presence of university representatives, including Dr Asmita Jagtap, executive director of Bharati Vidyapeeth’s Health Sciences division; Sharangdhar Sathe, director of the School of Performing Arts; and Pravin Kaslikar, head of the music department.
