5 Indian Electronic Acts Who Helped Us Get Through 2017

2017 WAS MASSIVE FOR INDIAN ELECTRONIC ACTS!

I think it’s safe to say that 2017 has been a rollercoaster ride for all of us. It seems we’re all rather pleased to bid 2017 adieu. But hey, no need to get all mopey and morose thinking about the shit that went down this year because if it’s one thing that I do know, is that through these tumultuous times, music always has our back. For someone who wasn’t too tuned into the incredibly diverse spectrum of electronic acts in the country, I don’t think you can fathom the sheer joy of discovering these artists and exploring their sonic perspective through their music.Thankfully, this year has had some incredible & path breaking electronic music and the independent scene has been blowing up and for all the right reasons.

Here are the 5 Indian electronic acts who helped us get through 2017

1. Sandunes

Sanaya Ardeshir is a producer, deejay, composer and synth player who is easily one of the best things to happen to the independent music industry, never fails to push the boundaries and has consistently managed to keep reinventing the ‘Sandunes sound’.   Her live sets are known to leave audiences in awe of her natural ability to connect with them on so many levels. So, imagine our excitement when she dropped her lead single “Does Bombay Dream of Nola" from Sandunes’s upcoming EP Nola Daydream set for release in January 2018.   The video is part two of a four-chapter audiovisual story, designed and illustrated by Studio Moebius, exploring the mysticism of New Orleans, Louisiana. Watch the breathtaking monotone animated video. [embed]https://youtu.be/naM3ZfMawkU[/embed]

2. Moon Roots Project

Fatema & Hannan Hakim are Pune based siblings who describe Moon Roots Project as a “hunt by two siblings for their love of sound who are constantly evolving their own sounds and re-working already produced tracks into their own fabric.” This project is one of the most fluid and evolving live acts to witness and their sounds ranges from Deep House to Trance and has these different layers which will make you groove for sure. 3. Lukan

Nakul Mehan aka Lukan is a Dj and producer who explores and is known for his boundless soundscapes. Nakul started music production 8 years back and since then he has spearheaded the House and Techno scene in India. His multi-layered productions and his signature vinyl-only sets are what makes him one of the best live acts to experience. Embracing white label tracks, vinyl only releases and paying less attention to Beatport charts and mainstream productions, he’s easily become a force to reckon with. Speaking of which, you HAVE to check out his independent release ‘Chords and Acid’. Such deep vibes!  [embed]https://soundcloud.com/lukanofficial/casnip[/embed]

4. Grain & Komorebi

Veteran producer Gaurav Raina also one half of India’s biggest electronica export – Midival Punditz, who goes by the moniker Grain and Delhi based Electronica artist Komorebi (Tarana Marwah) released a genre bending single titled ‘Dream’ earlier this year. This collaboration deconstructs the idea of genres and is like a beautiful cross-genre experiment. ‘Dream’ features guitar virtuoso Warren Mendonsa aka Blackstratblues and the percussion extraordinaire Karsh Kale. This track had my complete attention from the beginning to the end, Tarana’s dreamy vocals & ukulele quickly intensifies into an enthralling electronic composition with a sick bassline. Definitely need more of these radical collaborations! Also, check out the surreal video which is Illustrated by digital artist Archan Nair.   There’s no way that we’d let this one slip! 5. Three Oscillators

Three Oscillators are a Mumbai based duo which consists of Jwala co-founder Brij Dalvi and Avit Rane. Their music displays a range of fresh sounds and they effortlessly dabble with genres like ambient, glitch-pop, trip-hop and downtempo. Their latest EP ‘Transcendence’ was like a journey in space and time and left me feeling dazed without even lighting up. It seems the duo’s creative juices are flowing, with another EP coming out in January 2018 and honestly, we can’t wait to see what trip they take us on in the coming year! Take a deep breath, sit back and get ready to drift away. [embed]https://soundcloud.com/threeoscillators/transcendence[/embed]
