DID YOU SAY MATH ROCK?
Yep, you heard that right! Who would have ever thought that there would be a Math Rock band from New Delhi inspired completely by Japanese culture and Anime? Move over Polyphia, we've got our own Bouncy Bouncy bois! With a long career of finding themselves and their own sound, Kraken. have been evolving every single year - with multiple sound changes (They were a purely Heavy/Death Metal band right in the beginning) and lineup changes, they've managed to impress their peers and critics every time they tried something new! From representing India in Austria to playing various shows under phenomenal international acts, to releasing their grand opus 'Lush' last year (which we included in our Top 5 Lists for 2017), Kraken have certainly proven that they can easily hang with the big boys and show the country and the world what they're made of.
THIS STORY BEGINS AT OKAY PIZZA
Kraken. have really worked hard to stand out in the huge ocean of bands in the Independent scene in this country. With the release of their debut EP 'Lush', they did just that! But it's not just the music, it's the way they present themselves on social media and the way they interact with their fans! If you were lucky enough to witness their last gig at Turquoise Cottage in New Delhi, you would have a crowd of kids just wearing bright coloured t shirts and supporting the Kraken machine! But the band is really clear with their objectives as Guitarist and founder Moses Koul says,
95% of what goes behind closed doors is blood, teeth, sweat and good old fashioned elbow grease hard work. Its the 5% of the shiny, glittery, glamour that everyone gets to witness. That 5% is totally worth it all, though.
They've recently been in the news because their long time member and co-frontman Shagun Trisal decided to leave the band. Whilst it may seem that there might have been tensions, the band has been pretty clear with their relationships with all the members that have come and gone and some of them still have some role to play in the band, so we can easily say that they have had cordial relationships with all the members that have been in the band. When asked about how they deal with these changes, this is what they said:
The same way you deal with breakups or lineup changes in business, give into your vices, break stuff, get a replacement or downsize. The bright side of lineup changes is, you get to work with some great talent and learn from them. The downside is to rebuild chemistry with the changed lineup. I’d rather visit a dentist than try to rebuild lost chemistry.

THERE'S MORE COMING YOUR WAY!
Considering it took them quite a while since their inception to finally find their sound and come up with their first musical instalment through Lush, it would be logical to presume that the next Kraken offering would take some time. But guess what? Because it's Independence Day, both the band and we are feeling lucky and we can exclusively tell you that
Kraken. will be releasing ANOTHER EP NEXT MONTH! WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY? ANOTHER EP? YES! With a couple of upcoming shows in the North East, Kraken seem poised to dominate 2018 like they did with 2017! It's exciting to see them finally find their footing in this Independent Scene and we can only expect better stuff to come out of their camp!
