With its sharp curatorial focus, Magnetic Fields has established itself as one of the most striking contemporary arts and music festivals in the world, and its return every December is awaited with much excitement by music fans all over the world.
2025 will be a little different though – Magnetic Fields will not be returning to the desert in Alsisar, a place it has called home since its debut in 2013.
The team, in a statement released on September 9, thanked the village and its people for helping them realise a vision, and announced Magnetic Fields Nomads – to be held on February 13-15 – at a new location in Rajasthan.
The statement reads:A Love Letter to Alsisar - The Beginning Of A New Chapter
After 10 unforgettable years, Magnetic Fields bids a tender farewell to Alsisar Mahal and the village of Alsisar, carrying with us a deep and enduring gratitude for the warmth, generosity, and spirit that shaped a decade of magic.
This special land, with its golden sands and painted walls, became more than just a destination. It became our home. It bore witness to thousands of fleeting, timeless moments: the inexplicable communion of sunrise sets, laughter shared on rooftops, friendships forged on dancefloors, and the indescribable feeling of being part of something larger than ourselves.
As the festival landscape shifts, we now turn the page to a new chapter. A vision that carries the essence of Magnetic Fields into radiant new futures, unfolding across a series of extraordinary events and projects that breathe life into heritage spaces, challenging what a festival can be. Among them: the inaugural celebration at an exquisite and breathtaking new location in Rajasthan - a 21st-century architectural wonder - in February 2026.
We are reimagining how the Magnetic Fields experience is embodied - inviting our community to return to something more connected, more intentional and more present. All key information will be shared exclusively with those who register - released in staggered phases, to those who signed up first.
The blueprint is drawn, the spark is lit and we can’t wait to reveal what we’ve been building with you soon.
To Alsisar Mahal, its dedicated staff and the entire village. Your grace, hospitality, and presence have been the quiet architecture of this experience. You gifted us a sanctuary to imagine, create, and connect.
And to the land of Alsisar - thank you for holding us. For offering a canvas for our visions, for absorbing our sounds, for anchoring our wandering souls. We carry your dust in our bones and your stories in our hearts.
When Magnetic Fields invited people to camp in the desert in 2013, the contemporary music landscape in India was in its nascent stages. 12 years later, music festivals have sprouted in new corners, and international artists come calling every few weeks. The Indian festival goer today has choices and options.
This prompted the team to relook at their festival offering and go back to the drawing board to create a festival experience that’s more intentional, inspiring and community driven.
Magnetic Fields had, over the years, evolved into a vibrant platform that not only showcased the best in underground music from around the world but also championed the creativity of young and upcoming artists in India. It has strived to bridge the gap between various musical communities, traditions, and genres, from cultural art forms and folk musicians to classical and contemporary performers. And this very feature is at the core of the new music IP announced for February 2026.
“There are a lot of options out there – which of course, is great for everyone – but we want to stick to what we do best and what we always did differently,” says festival co-founder Sarah Elizabeth Chawla. “We have never been about the biggest stages, names or largest crowds. We want to be more intentional and reconnect with our purpose as a festival, using culture as an opportunity to centre and ground ourselves, not as a space for distraction and dissociation. Our goal is to challenge perceptions of what a festival can be, encouraging presence and sticking to our signature curation that weaves heritage and futurism into a bold new future,” she adds.
