Sikkim Arts And Literature Festival 2026 To Celebrate Culture, Music And Dialogue In The Eastern Himalayas

The second edition of the Sikkim Arts and Literature Festival 2026 is set to take place from April 26 to 28 at Ridge Park, bringing together voices from literature, music, and the arts in one of India’s most scenic cultural settings.

Presented by the Students’ Welfare Board, Education Department, Government of Sikkim in association with Teamwork Arts,the producers of the Jaipur Literature Festival,the three-day event aims to position Sikkim as a growing hub for creative and intellectual exchange.

Conceived as a platform for dialogue and youth engagement, the festival will feature panel discussions, literary sessions, workshops, poetry readings, music performances, and cultural showcases. It will spotlight Sikkim’s cultural heritage while connecting it with national and global narratives.

An initiative led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, the festival reflects a broader vision to nurture creative expression, support emerging talent, and strengthen the state’s cultural economy. It also seeks to boost literary tourism and create new opportunities for collaboration across artistic disciplines.

Speaking about the initiative, Aditya Golay said the festival aims to build a bridge between Sikkim’s traditions and contemporary global conversations, positioning the state as a destination for literature and creativity. Sonam Chopel Sherpa, Chairman of the Students’ Welfare Board, highlighted the importance of such platforms in encouraging youth participation, critical thinking, and artistic exploration.

Syed Shams Jawaid of Teamwork Arts noted that the festival is designed as a space where emerging voices can engage with established writers and artists, fostering dialogue across cultures, languages, and disciplines.

SALF 2026 will explore a wide range of themes including climate change, biodiversity, folklore, history, mental health, and contemporary literature. With a strong focus on youth, the festival will offer workshops and mentoring opportunities aimed at nurturing the next generation of storytellers and cultural leaders.

Beyond its programming, the festival is also expected to strengthen Sikkim’s cultural tourism landscape by attracting visitors from across India and abroad. By combining its natural beauty with a vibrant intellectual and artistic platform, Gangtok is positioning itself as a destination where culture and creativity thrive alongside heritage.

As the festival returns for its second edition, it signals Sikkim’s growing ambition to place itself firmly on the global cultural map,through stories, ideas, and shared creative experiences.
