Lalkaar | Bas Ab Bohot Hogaya | A Movement Led By M.A.R.D to End Violence Against Women & Girls 

"Bas Ab Bohot Hogaya" by MARD is a campaign that has been happening for almost a year now. Farhan Akhtar, & MARD team have been every day working on spreading awareness across the country on ending violence against women & girls via multiple ways. Including campus activations, concerts, social media campaigns, conference panel discussions and more! About a month ago, the #MeToo campaign took the internet by storm, made us realize that almost every third woman and even men in the country and the world go through violence, sexual and mental harassment, every day! The awareness spread across online platforms via this campaign while was incredible, it was so profound! The only question on everyone's mind remained to be, what next? MARD is a social movement started in 2013,  and have been aggressively working towards bringing change in this segment every day. This November, Lalkaar led by MARD was the beginning of a movement to advocate equality, human rights, child rights, and end violence of any form in India. The initiative is supported by almost every single Bollywood celebrity, the entire music industry, and engaging young inspiring filmmakers who submitted their documentaries on "Ending Violence Against Women & Girls" as a part of Contest led by MARD and believe us when we say this, they were very bold, strong and impactful.

About LALKAAR | The Concert & Its Mission

On November 21, 2017, 2000+ people gathered at Bandra Amphitheater, Mumbai to support and spread the message "Bus Ab Bohot Hogaya" advocating the mission of ending violence against women and girls led by MARD. This was the much-awaited ‘LALKAAR’ concert led by Population Foundation of India, Farhan Akhtar’s MARD, Anurag Rao Co-Founder & CEO of MARD, director Feroz Abbas Khan and supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation united Mumbai as music and musicians lent their support to the campaign that aims to end violence against women and girls. The concert invited multiple influencers, celebrities, and musicians to join the movement over the course of time.

Delivering an extremely sensitive issue via some of the greatest artists performing. To name some of all our favorites, Shahrukh Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Armaan Malik, Harshdeep Kaur, Papon, Salim- Sulaiman, Sukriti- Prakriti joined the movement Bas Ab Bahut Ho Gaya, Lalkaar by MARD. The concert was opened by the melodic twins of Bollywood, Sukriti-Prakriti. The highlights beyond Shahrukh Khan and Farhan Akhtar's performance, were Arman Malik, Salim- Sulaiman, and the entire line-up of artists joining together to sing the anthem "Chulein Aasman by Farhan Akhtar & Salim Sulaiman"

Music For Social Change  At Lalkaar!

Art & Culture indeed has great influence on the society, and there is no better way to spread across a message than via music. Driving change, spreading awareness via entertainment, art, music is possibly the best way to deliver a large impact. Midst multiple other event formats replicated globally to advocate social change, Lalkaar led by MARD supported a very powerful, much-needed message.

The Continued Efforts By MARD Via "Bus Ab Bohot Hogaya" Campaign

"Bus Ab Bohot Hogaya" college campaign, announced by Farhan Akhtar via Facebook Live on May 30, 2017, invited college students from all age-groups to submit a two-minute movie on spreading awareness on "Ending Violence Against Women & Girls". From 1700 film entries received, 3 were chosen winners judged by Shabana Azmi, Shekhar Kapoor, Firoz Abbas Khan and Kiran Karnik and were rewarded for their incredible work at the MARD Concert held on November 21, 2017.

What's Next For Lalkaar?

It all begins with spreading awareness, but the real efforts are reflected in the output. Advocating MARD's long-term vision, the campaign aims to be scaled up pan-India via both online and offline platforms. Expanding its reach geographically and even linguistically. The campaign aims to reach out to the grassroots and deliver change. Lalkaar is aiming for it being a multi-city and an annual event with the aim of driving change across the country.
