As sports' biggest carnival – the Olympics – draws closer, music director duo
Salim-Sulaiman have composed a foot-tapping number to get the adrenaline pumping among the athletes and the fans alike. The collaboration, '
Apne Olympians', celebrates India's Olympians through the vocals of Oscar and Grammy winner
Sukhwinder Singh and rapper Dee MC of 'Rising Star' fame.'Apne Olympians' is an ode to the efforts, dedication, and dreams of India’s contingent for the
Tokyo Olympics. The track has been created by Mumbai-based creative agency
Sportz Interactive in association with the
Olympic Channel. The song has been penned by ad guru
Sonal Dabral.
Talking about the project,
Salim Merchant tells us, "It was so inspiring to work on this project as a composer. Both Sulaiman and I are passionate about sports and to work on this – all virtually - was a special experience. Sukhwinder and Dee MC's sheer energy has brought a powerful vibe to this song." Sukhwinder Singh adds, "My association with Salim-Sulaiman goes back a long way and working on this song with them and the rest of the amazing people was a real privilege. Hopefully, the passion and energy in the words, the voices, and the music will be felt and loved by everyone and all our wishes will help our Olympians!"
The song's lyrics include the names of some of the medal contenders from the Indian contingent. Elaborating on this, Sonal Dabral says, "Names such as Manu Bhaker,
Vinesh Phogat, and Neeraj Chopra are not just potential medallists, they're real-life heroes. To dive into their life stories and collaborate with the gifted artists that we did was indeed a privilege."
Rapper DeeMC is thrilled about getting the opportunity to collaborate with Salim-Sulaiman and Sukhwinder. "Really grateful to have collaborated with Salim and Sonal sir on this unique project. I hope the champions feel the song's energy as much as we felt it while working on it," she says. The song is currently live on the Olympics Channel website.
