World record-breaking global musician Vineet Singh Hukmani is set to chart new creative territory with the release of a truly unique project, a double blues album featuring “Delta Blues Revival” in English and “Kyon? Punjabi Blues”, the world’s first-ever Punjabi blues album.
What makes this release extraordinary is not just its concept but its authenticity. Both albums have been recorded entirely on analog 8-track tape, without the use of computers, a rare, almost rebellious artistic choice in today’s digital-first era. The sessions feature the legendary yet reclusive Mississippi-based guitarist Ruffus Cotton and his band, whose soulful collaboration helped Vineet capture the raw essence of true Delta blues.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the project, Vineet said,“After learning and recording my Jazz/Traditional Pop album Enigma, I was drawn to an even rawer form of pure music, the Mississippi Delta blues. While I initially wrote and recorded 12 songs in English, I had an epiphany to extend this magic to Punjabi, resulting in my first-ever Punjabi album. Thanks to Mr. Ruffus Cotton’s training, I’ve been able to express myself authentically in the blues genre. Choosing the warm imperfections of analog allowed us to focus on being real and creative rather than being swept away by the sheen of perfect digital technology.”
For Cotton, the experience was equally transformative.“I never imagined working on a blues album with a musician from India,” he said. “Vineet not only learned ‘the blues way’ but put his soul into the music in a very special way. Hearing him sing the blues in English and then in Punjabi, was a double wonder for me.”
“Delta Blues Revival” features 12 original English tracks that pay homage to the grit, emotion, and storytelling tradition of Mississippi blues. “Kyon? Punjabi Blues”, on the other hand, introduces seven original songs that blend the expressive cadence of the Punjabi language with the earthy authenticity of Delta blues, creating a cross-cultural sound that is both groundbreaking and deeply human.
With this double release, Vineet Singh Hukmani not only revives the spirit of the blues but also expands its boundaries, connecting two worlds through analog warmth, musical honesty, and emotional truth.
