Times Music, owned by The Times Group, has announced the acquisition of Catrack Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., marking its third strategic buy as part of its ongoing partnership with Primary Wave Music. The deal adds a culturally significant Punjabi music catalogue to its portfolio, unlocking legacy content for global discovery and commercial expansion.
Founded in 1990, Catrack Entertainment played a pivotal role in shaping Punjabi music’s golden era, with a catalogue featuring iconic artists such as Babbu Maan, Malkit Singh, Channi Singh, and Dolly Singh. The label has also supported early careers of artists including Manmohan Waris, Surjit Khan, and Sukhwinder Panchhi.
With a strong digital footprint and enduring cultural resonance, the catalogue is expected to open up new opportunities across sync licensing, film and OTT integrations, brand collaborations, and modern reinterpretations.
The acquisition follows Times Music’s earlier deals with ARC Musicq and Symphony Recording Co., reinforcing its growing reputation as an active consolidator in India’s music IP space.
Vineet Jain, Managing Director of The Times Group, said the move reflects the company’s continued commitment to amplifying India’s cultural heritage on a global stage. Mandar Thakur, CEO of Times Music, described the Catrack catalogue as a “cultural treasure,” adding that the acquisition aligns with the label’s focus on preserving and revitalising iconic Indian music.
Gaurav Trehan, Director at Catrack Entertainment, noted that Times Music’s approach and execution made it an ideal partner for carrying forward the label’s legacy.
David Loiterton, President, Indo & Asia Pacific at Primary Wave Music, added that the partnership aims to take Catrack’s iconic repertoire to new global audiences, highlighting its cross-generational appeal.
With this acquisition, Times Music continues to strengthen its catalogue-led growth strategy, leveraging heritage content to drive new-age monetisation and global reach.
